In days gone by, nothing went to waste in the standard homestead, and this included the liquid leftover after churning butter. You might be surprised to learn there is no butter, per se, in buttermilk, and it is lower in fat than sweet milk. It was usually flecked with tiny spots of sweet, creamy butter that didn't quite make it to the top to be skimmed.

[Buttermilk soap] is especially good for people that have had [dry skin, or develop dry skin from the sun or air-conditioning.] Skin should never be dried out as it becomes more prone to lines and wrinkles.

[Note:] These are big bars of Milk Soap (130g) so they last longer. Some people with smaller hands or children may find it easier if the bar is cut into two pieces.

[Ingredients:]
Lac (Cow’s Whole Milk - Buttermilk), Sodium Olivate (Saponified Olive Oil), Sodium Cocoate (Saponifed Coconut Oil), Sodium Sunflowerate (Saponifed Sunflower Oil), Sodium Cocoa Butterate, Glycerin, Fragrant Oil (Phthlate Free).

[Lac (Cow’s Whole Milk - Buttermilk):] Originally this was the milk left behind after churning butter but now a lot of people drink it or use it in cooking. It is really creamy and so makes our Buttermilk soap even creamier. In Milk Soaps, fresh Buttermilk is self-preserving due to the pH.
[Sodium Olivate (Saponified Olive Oil):] Wonderfully healthy for the skin. So many benefits, it might be best to Google "Olive Oil Skin" instead.
[Sodium Cocoate (Saponifed Coconut Oil):] We used coconut oil as a stabiliser, it also helps to moisturise the skin
[Sodium Sunflowerate (Saponifed Sunflower Oil):] Sunflower Oil that has been saponified. Sunflower Oil is rich in vitamins A, D, especially vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Sunflower oil has a light texture making it very comfortable on babies’ skin.
[Sodium Cocoa Butterate:] A cream coloured fatty butter extracted from Cocoa Beans. Sometimes called the “ultimate” moisturiser, it is used to ‘superfat’ our milk soaps. This means that as you wash, some oils are left behind which is why our milk soaps have got their legendary following.
[Glycerin:] When making soap via “Cold Process” which is how we do it, natural glycerine is one of the bi-products. It is helpful to soften the skin.
[Fragrant Oil (Phthlate Free):] We used to use various Essential Oils in our Milky Shampoo, Conditioner and Milk Wash. EO’s are great if we could talk to each customer and check for allergies. Due to the occasional reaction to EO’s, we removed them. We want to sooth people scalps and even a very small number of reactions to EO’s was distressing for us. But people still want their hair to smell nice. So we worked with another company to develop phthalate free fragrant oil (phthalates are the things in fragrances that a lot of people don’t like) and since then the response has been great.

It is our aim to offer a fast and reliable delivery service, using the method specified in the checkout procedure. The cost of your delivery is automatically calculated depending on the total value of your order. Any order £30 and above is free of charge.

We will endeavour to despatch all orders within 24 hours. If some or all items are unavailable, then we will contact you before shipping.

It is always best to allow up to seven working days for delivery but unfortunately this can sometimes take longer and we cannot guarantee delivery dates for overseas delivery dates as they are sometimes subject to customs clearance in the destination country due to the quality of postal services from country to country.

Other Important Information

Where it is not possible for Royal Mail to deliver your order, it will be held at your local Royal Mail office for 5 days before being returned to us. To contact your local sorting office to arrange re-delivery or collection, please call 08457 740 740 in the UK.

We would advise that you check your local sorting office before contacting us if delivery has taken more than seven working days in the UK and Overseas, although overseas customers may have to wait up to two weeks.

If your order has been 'lost in the post’, it will only be investigated 17 working days after it was shipped because it is only after this period that the Royal Mail regards postage as officially lost.

European customers should note that in some rare occasions parcels do appear to take longer than usual to arrive and in such occasions it may be necessary to wait longer before further action is taken. This is largely because of the varied quality of postal services throughout Eurozone countries.

After the post office has completed its investigations, it will subsequently refund Elixir for the value of the parcel and postage and package. Upon receiving our costs from the post office your replacement parcel will then be re-sent, or your costs reimbursed if the product is no longer required. Customers are therefore advised to request signed for deliveries to ensure full tracking opportunities.

Depending upon the weight of your consignment we will inform you of the price separately.

For deliveries within England, Scotland and the Channel Islands our charges are as follows:

Order Value Delivery Charge
£0 - £29.99 £3.99
£30 + FREE
