Lanolin Sometimes called Hydrous wool fat, lanolin is a purified, waxy material obtained from the wool of sheep. It is a pale yellow, unctuous substance with a characteristic odour. Lanolin has the special ability to absorb at least twice its own weight in water, thereby making it ideal to help moisturise the skin. It has a very similar chemical composition to the skins own exudate and therefore has a natural affinity with the skin.
Olive oil is a fixed oil expressed from the fruit of Olea europa. Used in ointments and creams, as well as to make soft soap and also used for extractions. It’s a heavier oil which is very warming.
Sunflower seed oil, also a fixed oil, is obtained from the ripe fruits of Helianthus annuus L., by cold expression or extraction. Lighter than Olive oil, well tolerated by most skin types.
Only unbleached Yellow Beeswax is used by Weleda. The wax is obtained by melting the walls of the honeycomb of the bee, Apis mellifera, with hot water and removing the foreign matter. The yellow or light brown pieces of unbleached wax are fine-grained and become soft and pliable when warmed by hand. Beeswax is included in products to provide a protective coat on the skin.
Wool Alcohols - A mixture of sterols and higher aliphatic alcohols from Wool Fat. It assists the incorporation of the tincture and has similar properties to lanolin.
